There was a retired baseball player named Billy Bean who wrote about his life in the closet. Hollywood always gives Oscars to straight actors who play homosexuals. This could have been Brad's big year.

Michael Lewis is a consistently good author. Any of his books are a good read.

I read this book because of the movie and also because I had heard about on a sports podcast that I listen to on a regular basis. The first book of Lewis' that I read was The Big Short and by the end of that one I was ready to finish it, as I felt that the subject was a tad dull and would never read another one of his books. Well, I caved. Overall I thought that it was a good read and that it had an interesting subject to talk about. But, there were times that I had to just slog through the book and read it at times. A bunch of the book flew over my head in terms of the statistics, but what was interesting to me was the history behind what would become Moneyball. I would recommend the book for those that like to read about the statistical analysis of professional athletes, especially baseball fans.

After seeing the movie, I had to read the book. I enjoy Michael Lewis’ style of writing and marvel at his ability of making statistics interesting AND entertaining. Just like The Blind Side and Michael Oher, there’s much more to Billy Beane’s story than the Hollywood version. How did the Oakland Athletics win so many games with so little money? How did he turn a washed up catcher into a first baseman? Or where on earth did he find the oddball side arm throwing pitcher Chad Bradford? The answer to these questions is Sabermetrics. By looking at a player’s stats---particularly OBP (on base percentage)---Billy and his staff were able to identify a player who any other team would pass over in a New York minute. Of course, Lewis’ gift of storytelling makes the “science of baseball” laugh out loud funny and appealing to baseball fans everywhere.

Awesome book, definitely my top recommendation of the summer! Check it out before the Brad Pitt movie adaptation hits theatres.

This is a wonderful book not just about baseball but about the innovative management of large and established institutions. Even if you're not a baseball fan or are afraid of statistics this book will hold your interest beginning to end and change how you think about baseball and the very organizations you in your life.

I love this book and it is about baseball! When I read The Big Short, I knew nothing about the subprime crisis, and I will happily admit that I know/care even less about baseball than I do the subprime crisis. But true to his style, Lewis will dazzle you with his storytelling regardless of the topic.

This is a really well written book. It delves into the human side and the statistical side of baseball in an entertaining and understandable way. You will enjoy it.
