Two strands of silver hair - not human - cling to the body that lies nearby. These are Detective Jane Rizzoli's only clues, but they are enough for her and Dr Maura Isles to make a startling discovery: that this violent death had a chilling prequel. Seventeen years early a horrifying attack in a Boston restaurant left five people dead. Only one woman connected to the massacre is now still alive - a mysterious martial arts master who knows a secret she dare not tell. A secret that lives and breathes in the shadows of the city. A secret that may not even be human. It soon becomes clear than an ancient evil is stirring in Chinatown: an evil that has killed before, and will kill again - unless Jane and Maura can track it down, and defeat it.

Add a CommentGerritsen is a terrific writer and The Silent Girl was the perfect antidote while I was battling a nasty cold. The Chinese legends mixed with modern day myths while Rizzoli tries to solve a new murder interwoven with old ones captivated me from the start.
This is the second Gerritsen novel I have read. What a contrast it is to her novel, "Whistleblower". I much preferred "SIlent Girl" and thus will read other Rizzoli novels.
I LOVE Tess Gerritsen and this book!
I loved this book!! Although it is different than all other Rizzoli/Iles novel, I thought that it was a great change, the mixture of the old and the new. Loved the fable combination with the real life. Its good to have something that finally reflect her background.
I was disappointed with this book. Maybe it was because my expectations were too high. I have loved all of her books and normally I can't put them down. This was the complete opposite- I struggled to finish it.
I still think the surgeon & the apprentice were better but this was a good read.
This is her best Rizzoli/Isles book yet--kept you in suspense until last word---could not put it down until I finished.
