The next day, a NASCAR crew member comes to Temperance Brennan's office at the Mecklenburg County Medical Examiner to share a devastating story. Twelve years earlier, Wayne Gamble's sister, Cindi, then a high school senior and aspiring racer, disappeared along with her boyfriend, Cale Lovette. Lovette kept company with a group of right-wing extremists known as the Patriot Posse. Could the body be Cindi's? Or Cale's? At the time of their disappearance, the FBI joined the investigation, only to terminate it weeks later. Was there a cover-up? As Tempe juggles multiple theories, the discovery of a strange, deadly substance in the barrel alongside the body throws everything into question. Then an employee of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention goes missing during Race Week. Tempe can't overlook the coincidence. Was this man using his lab chemicals for murder? Or is the explanation even more sinister? What other secrets lurk behind the festive veneer of Race Week? A turbocharged story of secrets and murder unfolds in this, the fourteenth thrilling novel in Reichs's "cleverly plotted and expertly maintained series" (The New York Times Book Review). With the smash hit Bones about to enter its seventh season and in full syndication-and her most recent novel, Spider Bones, an instant New York Times bestseller-Kathy Reichs is at the top of her game.

Add a CommentRead the book - it was ok but I do not like this writer.
Another Kathy Reichs book. Not one of her best. It was enjoyable while it lasted, but I have forgotten exactly what it was about..... not a gripping story line.
I enjoy Reich's books, but I think this is one case where the television version is better than the book. I don't like the book version of Temperance Brennan. I think Bones does a better job of developing characters and making them relatable.
Not so keen.
Kathy Reichs is becoming more and more disappointing with each installment of this series. Her protagonist, Temperance Brennan, never seems to move forward and she is constantly repeating the same plot finales. Basically as soon as she starts to try to question a suspect on her own or can't get a hold of her detective partner to let them know where she is going she predictably ends up in hot water. (Usually, hit over the head and locked in a room.) She tried to make the plot line in this story more complex by layering 3 events but it just made it a frustrating read. Finally, I find NASCAR to be boring, thankfully it wasn't too filled with discussions on car racing.
Disappointingly short story, seemed like less effort was put into this book. Very few of the old characters in it. As a big Kathy Reichs fan, I expected more, not less. Worth reading, barely.
did noy enjoy this as much as earlier Reichs' books. found the characters to be confusing and the story itself disappointing, despite the interesting background of NASCAR racing. have always preferred Reichs' books set at least partially in Quebec.
I enjoyed the book, I enjoy most of her books! However, I missed some of the characters not being in this novel. Also, it was a very quick read and usually Reichs books aren't.
The 14th thriller with forensic anthropologist Temperance Brennan. Looks like the title changed.
