Join us at Matuku Takotako: Sumner Centre for a day of theatre workshops and makerspaces.
Shadow puppets | Mask-making | Face painting | Music and Movement sessions

The Matuku Theatre Family Day is a collaboration between Christchurch City Libraries and Matuku Theatre (formerly Sumner Community Theatre), running alongside Matuku Theatre’s exhibition at Matuku Takotako: Sumner Centre.

We’ll have face painting, and shadow puppet and mask makerspaces throughout the day (10am – 3pm). There will also be a Shadow Puppet Theatre where people can have a go at creating their own shadow plays. No bookings required. All ages and abilities welcome.

In the afternoon, there will be Music and Movement workshops led by Hannah Snelling, the musical director of Matuku Community Theatre: Aimed at a younger family audience (preschool-y3), Hannah will lead you through a short interactive workshop exploring rhythm and movement, featuring songs from Julie Wylie and other New Zealand musicians. Sessions 1pm, 1.30pm, 2pm and 2.30pm
