The Story of Johan “Hans” Klisser (1927 - 2022)

The session includes historical testimony, a transitional stage for processing, and open discussion.

Hear about Johan "Hans" Klisser, born in Amsterdam in 1927, who survived Nazi occupation and moved to New Zealand in 1951 with only $20. He founded Vogel's Bread with Dr. Max Reizenstein and later established Klisser's Farmhouse Bakery, which still produces the famous bread today.

Kristopher Clancy is the Education Director of the Holocaust Centre of New Zealand.

An exhibition of eight graphic style banners that explain New Zealand’s response to the Holocaust and the significance of this event in our history, will be on display on He Hononga/ Ground Floor.
