A few years ago, three British teenagers ran away to become ISIS brides. How could they decide to do this? How does a fifteen year old decide to leave her family, her friends, and everything she has ever known, to go and be part of a radical religion?

"I am Thunder" is about exactly this. Muzna lives with her family in present-day Britain, and wants to be a writer when she grows up. She visits the mall with friends after school. She doesn't wear the hijab. Over time, she finds herself caught up with people involved with and teaching Islamic radicalization, and it is up to Muzna to work out what she believes in.

This book is well worth a read, particularly if you are after an issues-driven book for NCEA reading.
