Add a CommentA deeply stupid and relentlessly unfunny 1987 adaptation of the classic cop show. Tom Hanks and Dan Aykroyd, who also co-wrote, are a match made in comedy hell. Original star Harry Morgan co-stars, as do Dabney Coleman (as a guileless pornographer) and Christopher Plummer (as a charlatan preacher). The influence of "Beverly Hills Cops" is clear, as there is as much action (none of it good) as comedy (none of it good). You have to watch through the credits so you can hear the truly terrible closing song, which features, I kid you not, Hanks and Aykroyd rapping. Man, Hanks had a lot of stinkers in the 80s.
Less smoking would be good.
The way they are remaking TV shows into movies these days, even back in the 80;s they did a good job with this one. Tom Hanks delivers the comic relief but Dan Akryod is equally funny and has perfected the voice of Joe Friday. Lots of stars in this movie and it's a lot of fun. That being said, the plot leaves a lot to be desired so don't expect an Oscar worthy movie. But I'm pretty sure you'll laugh out loud at least once!
