A story of life growing up in Palmerston North in the 1950s, 60s and early 1970s and then to locations further afield in West Australia, Gisborne, Asia and Bay of Islands. Main Street, Victoria Avenue, Roy Street, Russell Street Primary School, Freyberg High School, Massey University, Longburn Freezing Works and the PNCC Rubbish Cart, all have their moment. The book provides an insight into growing up in post-war small-town New Zealand, the usual angst of a young man finding his way in life, how to earn a living and build relationships. Working on farms, in the freezing works, flatting while studying at university, working in a construction camp in the West Australian outback and travelling the Hippie Trail across Asia, all form the backdrop to a Palmy Boy's Story.
