Biography: Mary Müller wrote her appeal under a pen-name and had it distributed as a pamphlet in 1869, but did not reveal her identity as the author until after her husband had died. Margaret Cruickshank was in fact the second woman doctor, the first being Emily Siedeberg, but was probably the first woman to work as a general practioner.
