Coraline is a dark fantasy novella by Neil Gaiman. It tells the spooky story of Coraline, a young and unhappy girl who uncovers strange things behind a mysterious door she finds in her home. Coraline’s life and the events that occur throughout this powerful story have been made into a movie with the same name. Coraline is a well-written story with a powerful and relatable conflict teenagers would love. Neil Gaiman’s story keeps readers on edge throughout the spooky, thrilling tale.

Coralline follows Coraline herself as she learns about the new building she has moved into. The curious girl opens doors, falling into a whole new world.
I love Coraline! This novel is dark and twisted, yet appropriate for children. Coraline’s curiosity and wittiness makes her an excellent character. I do wish that there was more background on her parents and why they are they way they are. That remained a mystery. I found myself comparing it to the movie a ton, which took away from my personal experience with the book at times, so I suggest one to read the book before watching the movie.
Overall, I love this book and how unique the concept is.

This book had my skin crawling!

I was already a perfectly mature, rational young adult when I first read this book and it still made me afriad of the dark. This is a great example a essentially violence free scary novel and is a great introduction to horror and thrillers for children who are into those genres.

A quick and spooky read--fun for adults, too!

Incredibly good book. Neil Gaiman did a great job on this spooky masterpiece. I think the creepiest thing about this book, beyond the story, is the fact that he wrote a horror story for kids. Whatever kind of sorcery he uses at his writing desk, I want in.

The book “Coraline” is about a young adventurous girl who finds a secret passageway in her house, there she meets people referred to as her “Other mother” and “Other father”. Eventually, she starts visiting her “other parents” more often. But after a while she finds out more secrets about her "other mother", and the only person who can fix everything is Coraline. Since Coraline was the one who made these choices, and she has to get herself out of it. I liked this book, however I mostly recommend it to people who are adventurous and also like the thriller genres. I recommend this for ages 10-15, since Coraline’s age is 11, and this age range could probably relate more to Coraline’s choices, especially if you are curious and adventurous. This book was very creative and fun to read. This book was enjoyable, however I think that if people like thriller genres then they will enjoy this book even more.

I read halfway through this book and asked “why do I continue to read something that is so far-fetched and not enjoyable”?. I returned it when the realization that it wasn’t going to get any better struck me.

Terrifying, absolutely terrifying. Book or Movie, Coraline is not for children as it’s dark themes consist of bringing children’s nightmares come to life after the main protagonist finds herself in a parallel world where all seems well but in reality it’s truly demonic. However I will admit the story gives readers a lesson worth learning about which is essentially, be careful what you wish for. If you are a fan of twisted stories then I highly recommend Coraline for you but please do not read this to a child. Aside from horror the book does present some issues a child might actually go through like not having the best family life for example however in the end all is well and although I’m giving this book a low rating it is worth the read, I’m just not a fan of horror is all. 1 star
