With the arrival of eligible young men in their neighbourhood, the lives of Mr and Mrs Bennet and their five daughters are turned inside out and upside down. Pride encounters prejudice, upward-mobility confronts social disdain, and quick-wittedness challenges sagacity, as misconceptions and hasty judgements lead to heartache and scandal, but eventually to true understanding, self-knowledge, and love.

Alice: I just came here to say Colin Firth as Darcy is the GOAT!

This one is a wonderful version. I love that they stayed close to the book - because after all - it is the book we fell in love with first. Correct costumes, mannerisms, hair, speech - all contribute favorably.

An all-time favorite of mine. Colin Firth is the definitive Darcy and Jennifer Ehle a perfect Elizabeth Bennett, with strong supporting players all around them in a romantic Regency world. It is a delight to see Julia Sawalha portraying the boy-crazy, airheaded Lydia; such a contrast to her droll buttoned-down Saffron as seen on "Absolutely Fabulous." One can't help but draw comparisons to other versions of the story that have been put on screen. While the version starring Keira Knightley has much to recommend it, including a nice tight narrative and the inimitable Judi Dench as Lady Catherine de Bourgh, I feel this one remains superior.

A great classic for a great classic! P & P is my all time favorite book, I never get tired of it. This wonderful mini series adaptation is excellent. I purchased it because I watch it 2-3 times a year. Very binge worthy!

For everyone who is rabid about this version - may I present an alternative: The BBC 1980 (produced in 1979) version.

It is definitely a lower budget with less saturated colour and Mr. Darcy - while amazingly beautiful - is never wet and scarcely even smiles at any time during the production.

But the rest of the casting is spot on.

And the few outdoor scenes show a capable hand was at the helm.

A great classic story of romance and character. Sharp and intelligent dialogue (excluding of course, Mrs. Bennett and Mr. Cummings who are nonsensical by design), delivered exceptionally well by the actors. The sets/locations and costumes are excellent. There are no special effects, battle scenes or "X-rated" moments--- this video comes from a real book, not a comic book.

My favourite by far. An accurate of the book.

By far the best, most faithful "Pride and Prejudice" adaptation. The cast is amazing, the sets are beautiful, and costumes and mannerism are as one would expect from the era. Cannot recommend it more.

By far better than the movie version. Every second of the 322 minutes well spent, whereas I was impulsed to fast forwad some parts of the movie version. How unfortunate that there was this Firth's version already, even though I personally find Knightley and Rosmund quite likable.

Colin Firth and that is all I have to say!

Definitely the best version, still. The characters are well built through this longer series

She is tolerable, I suppose, but not handsome enough to tempt me.
