Best Reads of 2016

These are my top 10 books of 2016- a mix of poetry, novels, and non fiction that I loved and still wish I hadn't finished (grumble grumble). I thoroughly enjoyed this work over a few evenings. Some poems were read and re-read. Cohen's humor and poetical insights are beautifully illustrated. One gets his humanity coming vividly across from his words and art. It shows his genius of showing ordinary events and things having impacts on our lives and destinies. Beautiful work.

This book reviews itself. No really: one of its poems includes this comment on itself, "this odd collection of jazz riffs, pop-art jokes, religious kitsch and muffled prayer".
It's not great poetry- but Cohen himself admits it. People dismiss his honesty as becoming self-deprecation.
But damn, he's a past master of irony:
"I never got the girl,
I never got rich,
follow me."
A very canadian minor poet.
