Pippi Longstocking – 70 years young, and still going strong

I remember reading Astrid Lindgren's Pippi Longstocking as a child, and thinking what a wonderful, exciting life this nine-year-old girl had. With no adults to tell her what to do, a pet monkey and horse who lived in her house, and two good friends who lived right next door with whom she could have adventures every day, this girl - to my young brain, at least - was living the dream. Now, I k… (more)

An absolute delight. Whether you are reading this to yourself or to a child, you will laugh at Pippi's adventures, smile at Lauren Child's illustrations, and will yourself to be living the life that Pippi has. I mean - what 9-year-old wouldn't want to be living by themselves with a pet monkey and... Read More »

Pippi Longstocking is an interesting and funny fictional book. I loved how there was no limit to Pippi's imagination. her personality is so wild and wonderful at the same time. she truly is a remarkable child and so is this book.

I read this book for the "A Foreign Book Translated Into English" part of my 2018 reading challenge. It was ok, but I found Pippi a bit annoying. I know being headstrong and quirky is her charm, it just didn't do it for me.

That story is sad becasue her mother died and she is in heaven by now and becomes a angel. Her father was the sailor captain and then the terrible storm came and he died.So sad.Pippi is alone with her pet monkey and she moved to Villa Ville house.

This is a new translation of the first book about Pippi Longstocking. It's not that different from the original English translation from some decades ago, a few different word-choices is all I noticed, but the new illustrations by Lauren Child are a delight. Pippi Longstocking is a great, laugh-out-loud story to read to your child or to a class, and is reallly good choice for a child reading novels on their own as well.
