Ruby Red, by Kerstin Gier, is a fantasy novel filled with electrifying suspense and thrilling adventure. The plot follows Gwyneth Shepherd, an ordinary 16-year-old girl, whose life changes when she realizes she possesses a special time-traveling gene. In order to reveal the Secret of the Twelve, Gwyneth must endure countless obstacles on her risky quest to track down the previous time-travelers. Being the first novel of the Ruby Red trilogy, Ruby Red introduces many mysteries yet to be solved in the later books. I would definitely recommend this book to someone who wants the perfect combination of sci-fi and fantasy, with lots of adventure, secrets, and mystery.

This book was excellent! If you're into novels that have an English atmosphere and word choice (like Harry Potter), or just love a good time-travel story, this book is perfect. Gwen is a relatable heroine with a secret power and a possible romance. Can't wait to read the next book in the trilogy!

I found this book boring at first. It seemed like just another boring school-drama story. DON NOT BE FOOLED! This book is a fantastic story about secrets and time travel and is a must read for girls 14+

It says the series is The Edelstein Triologie but I think that's its name in a different language.
I cannot find the name in English either :( Can someone help me, please?

I really like this take on time travel! i think its an exceptionally fascinating read.

A fun Young Adult book about a teen who discovers she has a special time-traveling gene. The best read I've found recently that is funny and just plain fun!

This one was just plain fun. Gwen has a great sense of humor, and I loved being introduced to time travel with her. It definitely feels like the first book in a series, though, because I was left with a sense that the story is only beginning...

Now I am not going to comment on all the books in the Ruby Red trilogy, but if you bother to read the comments on this one you will know that this book and all the other books in this trilogy are amazing. They are filled with adventure, Sci-Fi, romance, and a whole lot more, so hopefully you give this book a chance because if you do you will fall in a trance.

Ruby Red is a novel of intrigue, mystery, romance, fantasy and history set in modern London. This first of three gem-themed instalments follows Gwyneth, who learns of her ancestors’ time travel history. Her narration is winning and full of humour, the story fast-paced and absorbing. I loved the system, history and symbolizing of time travel, which, despite being fantasy, was very well-thought-out and believable. There is excellent foreshadowing, with just enough information to keep suspense, without divulging too much of the plot. Given that this was translated from German, all the truly funny humour is all the more impressive, and authentic to the London setting. Gwyneth was a naïve character, but she was authentic and appealing, and the book kept me gripped following her adventures. The contrast between the mystery, romance and laughs was executed very well. The side characters were also entertaining, especially Xemerius and Lesley. The romance was decent, though a bit rushed; I look forward to seeing how it plays out. A revelation was implied late on, though the cliffhanger is suspenseful. There were very few imperfections for me, overall. Among the best was the world-building the author created, the secrets that were hinted at and the tension that remained throughout. Rating: 4.5/5 Stars

This book seems really popular. I really like the way the author wrote it. I couldn't stop reading it once I started.

wonderlands Apr 24, 2013

Gwyneth Shepherd's sophisticated, beautiful cousin Charlotte has been prepared her entire life for traveling through time. But unexpectedly, it is Gwyneth, who in the middle of class takes a sudden spin to a different era!

Gwyneth must now unearth the mystery of why her mother would lie about her birth date to ward off suspicion about her ability, brush up on her history, and work with Gideon--the time traveler from a similarly gifted family that passes the gene through its male line, and whose presence becomes, in time, less insufferable and more essential. Together, Gwyneth and Gideon journey through time to discover who, in the 18th century and in contemporary London, they can trust.
