Ngahiwi Apanui's Matariki album is a mix of reggae and mōteatea (traditional chants), focusing on family, the moon and community. It also includes a reggae version of Pōkarekare Ana, the sleeve notes reminding us of the waiata's connections to rippling waters. Apanui is a former member of the reggae group Aotearoa and is now the Chief Executive of Te Taura Whiri i Te Reo Māori, the Māori Language Commission. If you want to listen to some reflections on Matariki this is the album for you!
