Julian survived at the Iron Mountain Home for Boys only because his older brother, Michael, was fearless and fiercely protective. When tensions boiled over and a boy was brutally killed, Michael fled the orphanage. Now, two decades later, Michael is an enforcer in New York's world of organized crime, but the life he's fought to build unravels when he meets Elena. He wants a fresh start with her, but someone else is holding the strings and escape is not that easy. The mob boss who gave Michael his blessing to begin anew is dying, and his son is intent on making Michael pay for his betrayal. Determined to protect the ones he loves, Michael spirits Elena?who knows nothing of his past crimes, or the peril he's laid at her door? back to North Carolina, to the place he was born and the brother he lost so long ago. There, he will encounter a whole new level of danger, a thicket of deceit and violence that leads inexorably to the one place he's been running from his whole life: Iron House.

"Twenty years ago, brothers Michael and Julian lived, unhappily, in a grim North Carolina orphanage. When another orphan was killed, Michael, the strong one, fled to New York City and eventually ended up as a hitman for the Mob. Sensitive, vulnerable Julian was adopted and took to exorcising his demons through his writing. They haven't seen each other since the night Michael ran away, but that's about to change as Julian comes under threat by one of Michael's rivals. With themes of loyalty and love laid against the violence and brutality of men and boys alike, their reconnection makes for compelling, if blood-soaked, reading." Awesome book! Very exciting!! A little more violent and gory than I'm used to, but maybe that's why I enjoyed it so much. Predictable ending, but I was happy with it. Great reader too!
