Robert Douglas retired in 1994, intending to paint and watch old films: instead he became a best-selling author with the publication of his memoir Night Song of the Last Tram. Set in the 1960s, his new novel, Staying on Past the Terminus, recreates the last days of Glasgow's tram networks, seen from the Maryhill tenement where he grew up.
