If you can stomach lines like "Oh Dolly, you really are beastly sometimes" and not roll your eyes, then this film may be for you. Of course the servants all adore the masters of the house. Like Downton Abbey and if I may say so, not at all like real life. Do you adore your employers? Nope and neither did servants, which is why as soon as other jobs were available in shops and offices, everybody left "service."

In general I'd call this "a load of tosh."

Frothy drawing room comedy featuring typical Brit eccentrics and a wacky dysfunctional family. Some good lines, but overlong for what it delivers. OK as an entertainment if you are in the mood.

Boring and Dumb

The "knocked-up bride" storyline is less than compelling, and the young couple involved is not so interesting. But the script is more astringent and entertaining than usual, and more delicately written than most hijinks at the wedding movies. There are a couple genuinely moving moments. The cast is wildly overqualified.

The story is not new, but the way it is treated is, and the movie is very. very well done and mastered.

This a very British film, in the best way possible. The set design and costumes are beautiful. All the actors are first rate - Luke Treadaway and Olly Alexander in particular. If you enjoy quiet, period, English countryside-set films, this one is for you.

I just put a hold on this movie because I enjoy Elizabeth McGovern'a work. I have followed her career for years, ever since, "Once Upon a Time in America".

I am also intrigued by the contradictory comments posted. I wonder what I will think of this movie!

I watch lots of period drama/art house films but I found this hard to follow. The characters were repellent rather than charmingly quirky, so I had difficulty developing any interest in any of their fates. I turned this off mid-way through and gave it back to the library. Not enjoyable.

A sunday afternoon movie in the lines of Downton Abbey. A period piece about the decisions of marriage and will she/won't she go through with the wedding. Nicely intersperced with flashbacks to the early days of courtship and relationships with other suitors.
