Although Wai is still at high school, she is responsible for looking after her two younger sisters, and earning money to support the family - this is all made easier with the support of her boyfriend Tama. The young couple love each other deeply. However, her world is turned upside down when a stranger comes to town. He is handsome, a talented singer, but manipulative and two faced. Ths love story is a modern retelling of the traditional story of the taniwha Poutini, who kidnaps Waitāiki, the wife of Tamaahua. Rewritten to be relevant for young people today.
