Most people ignored the outrageous reports on the news. But they became too frequent, they became too real. And soon, they began happening down the street. Then the Internet died. The television and radio went silent. The phones stopped ringing. And we couldn't look outside anymore. Malorie raises the children the only way she can; indoors. The house is quiet. The doors are locked, the curtains are closed, mattresses are nailed over the windows. They are out there. She might let them in. The children sleep in the bedroom across the hall. Soon she will have to wake them. Soon she will have to blindfold them. Today they must leave the house. Today they will risk everything.

How to survive the end of the world : Defender by GX Todd

I've sometimes wondered what life would be like if all I had left were the boots on my feet... With recommendations from Lee Child and John Connolly, Defender is British author GX Todd 's extraordinary debut novel. Defender is set in a dystopian future where most humans have succumbed to a disease that makes people crazy - hearing voices that tell them to kill others and then themselves. In… (more)

This story was atmospheric and had me tense at times while reading it. I can't imagine having to live like these characters. There were some parts of this book that were a little difficult for me to read because of the content. But, overall, this was an enjoyable, tense read. I thought that the pacing of this book kept the reader engaged and it went quickly.

Fast paced and exciting. What a crazy original idea! A must read if you can get past the use of the present tense. You will this whole novel as fast as you can racing to the end. Now on to the movie...

I have always enjoyed a good horror story, and I have to say “Bird Box” by Josh Malerman is a perfect fit for me. The story is about an unknown creature that if anyone who looks at it will go insane and will end up in a fatal death. The most terrifying and creepiest thing about the creature is that the readers don’t know exactly what it is or what it looks like, this will leave the readers wondering and terrified. The scariest thing to the human is the unknown. After finishing the book, I discovered that “Bird Box” has a film adaptation, and to my surprise, it is as good as the original novel. If you enjoy a thrilling horror story, it is a definite read for you.

I really enjoyed the premise & execution of this horror novel.

This book was amazingly written. It keeps you in the dark about what the creatures are and why they do what they do.
This story is filled with tragedy, remorse, and uncertainty.
The ever intertwining thoughts that rolled around in Malorie' s head, to what dangers lurked beyond the curtains?

A realistically written piece of fiction.

Well-written, but the premise hung on very flimsy logic in some places and there are a few "oh, come ON" moments. As a debut novel, though, it's certainly interesting enough to merit investigating the author's other work; he has a highly readable style.

I enjoyed the fact that it was placed in Michigan. Other than that it was rather boring just one of those books you just get through to see what's going to happen and no bang for your buck at the end. I read this book prior to the movie I don't understand why people like the movie which I've never watched because the book was not that good.

I absolutely loved this book! The movie was great, the book was better! If your anything like me and enjoy scaring yourself with apocalyptic thrillers this is for you! Its filled with twists and jumps from past to present but is easy to follow and a quick read! I read it in just a few sittings!Thumbs way up!

I enjoyed this book so much more than I thought I would. The writing style was choppy and almost staccato in nature and I was concerned that the style would make it difficult to convey details and emotions. I got used to it though and now recognize that the writing aided in the heightened sense of confusion and suspense. I highly recommend reading "Bird Box" but maybe not as a "reading before bed" book. :)
