I cannot believe it has taken me so long to read David Hair's Aotearoa series. I am now onto the 3rd book.I think it is a great rival for John marden's 'Tomorrow series. If you are open to and have an interest the power of te Ao Māori then it is all the more fascinating. I really really like the way that his characters so subtly remind us that there is a huge history in Aotearoa around colonialism and how it affected Māori and therefore ultimately all of us. Aside from the deep and meaningfuls, the constant presence of tohunga makutu, taniwha, ponaturi, tipua and many other folk that give us insight to Māori tikanga, purakau and lore - it is a rollicking, fast paced, action series that is so perfect for our tamariki and rangitahi from Year 8 through to Year 11 (thinking how it could be an attractive read for those who are in the 'must read something' group. Oh, and there are plenty of teenage woes, triumph and attraction as well.
Give some home grown action a go.

This bookwas unbelievably cool but really scary. I was too scared to go outside in the rain to get some wood! It's like an NZ thriller with cool characters, action and traditional purakau
