Great book full of surprises and had a great ending!

Awful Auntie is a great title for this book, because the aunt in question, Aunt Alberta, is really awful! She is truly dreadful and makes a great book villain. Young orphaned Stella finds herself trapped inside spooky Saxby Hall with her awful aunt, and she begins to suspect that her aunt is up to no good and is actually a murderer. The book is very funny, but the humour is often very dark and twisted. David Walliams' books have become a sensation and he is often compared to Roald Dahl. Awful Auntie was a great funny children's mystery. Stella is a very capable and brave heroine. Saxby Hall, a spooky old mansion, was a perfect setting. I thought this book was a hoot and I really enjoyed it, but not everyone may enjoy this type of dark humour. Recommended for middle grades and up.

I absolutely love all of David Williams books and this one was probably my favorite so far out of all of the ones I’ve read. In this book, Stella, Lady Saxby, lives in a large house with her family including her mom, dad, and aunt. Her aunt is one truly awful aunt though. So awful she is a murderer. The story is very complicated and long to explain, but it makes sense and it's just really thrilling and interesting to read. Just when you think it's all over for Stella, just something happens and turns the whole story around. I would really recommend reading this book along with all of the other David Williams books!

I love this book. Full of mystery, crime and intensity. For others you may have to be patient because it starts to get interesting only maybe 50 pages into the story. Saxby Hall is a real place, don't believe me check for yourself!

From a 2015 Summer Reading Club book reviewer: This book is about a girl named Stella who is trying to prove that her auntie is the person who murdered her parents. My favourite part is when Stella and Soot (Lord Henry) play a prank on the aunt. Five stars. - So Jin (11)
