Sisters by Raina Telgemeier is a graphic novel which follows the book Smile based on the life of the author. It follows the main character Raina on a family road trip to Colorado as she tries to navigate her relationship with her younger sister Amara. I really enjoyed this book because as a sibling myself, I found that it was easy to relate to the characters and the overall story, which was really well written. From the beginning, their relationship wasn’t always perfect, but as you read further, the various experiences they’ve had together helps them have a stronger understanding of one another. One thing that could have been done better in the book in my opinion, are the transitions between Raina’s old memories and her current life. Some of them felt out of place in comparison to what was going on in the present day. Overall, this is a great read with a humorous and relatable storyline. I would recommend it to anyone over the age of ten and especially to those who have had experiences with siblings. @tressab of the Teen Review Board at the Hamilton Public Library

Feud among siblings has been relevant for most of history, as most people can agree on. Telgemeier’s comic “Sisters” explores the feelings and expectations Raina experiences surrounding her little sister Amara, who turns out to be a grouchy and petulant kid with a passion for drawing. Their family goes through multiple phases, from pet deaths to a grand road trip, which helps in establishing and solidifying the shared relationship among the two sisters. This would make a great read to people who have experienced sibling feuds or generally just anyone who wants a relaxing and humorous read.

Sisters is an autobiographical graphic novel written by Raina Telgemeier as a follow-up to her earlier graphic memoir Smile. It details a long summer road trip taken from San Francisco to Colorado by her family and explores the relationship between Raina and her younger sister, Amara. I enjoyed reading this because it has a really good storyline. I would recommend this to children 10 and up. It has an easy to follow story that you can skip a few pages if you don’t feel like you want to read the whole thing. It is a story that is based on real experiences that happen pretty often. This book is amazing to read various times and when you start to read you won’t be able to make yourself stop. Rating: 5/5

Though I've read this a few times now and to be honest it could just be me but the older I get it I feel like I lose just a little bit of interest in the story. I'm not trying to be mean here, but that's how I feel. This is a great story, I'll say that. And still I can totally relate. And seriously three weeks, two sisters, and one family road trip? It's a recipe for mass chaos; or maybe all this chaos will make you see what is truly important. In this graphic novel join Raina and her family for what poses to be one very interesting (and chaotic) family road trip from San Francisco to Colorado.

This continuation of Smile does not disappoint. Sisters is told through colorful and expressive drawings that focus on the relationship between Raina and her younger sister Amara. We get to see Raina and Amara grow and get along with each other. The story is heartwarming yet hilarious.

Brilliant! Family life and sibling rivalry follow two timelines. One present, one beginning just prior to baby sister joining the family. The past timeline pages have a sepia tone to help distinguish them from the present (white) pages. The road trip seat assignments are so on point. When my three boys were growing up, they loved taking trips with me and each boy having his own "row" in our family suburban. They also loved having their own walkmans to listen to books on tape and Adventures From Odyssey. The pet progression also brought back memories. We also had a snake in our house -- a ball python -- who needed to be fed live rodents and also escaped a time or two. Eeek! So many great moments in this book. I think this is my favorite from the author. Thank you for sharing your life in graphic novel form, Raina!

This book is based on true stories from author Raina Telgemeier clearly portrays familial tensions in a realistic and entertaining and engaging way. Raina always wanted to have a little sister, but Amara has never been the kind of little sister she expected. When the family takes a three week long road trip to a family reunion, Raina and Amara must deal with their contentious relationship.
