Loved it!!! At first it was a little boring. After Mercy gets notification that she is wanted in Washington, that is when the real adventure begins. It really isn't a sequel but there are most of the same characters. This book starts about a few years after Boneshakers. I think that it should have started like immediately after the events in Boneshaker ends.
This is the sequel to Boneshaker. Well, not really a sequel, more like a book that takes place in the same world as Boneshaker and that has themes and linkages to Boneshaker. Despite my love of Zombie fiction which Boneshaker involves a lot of, I think I liked Dreadnought better. I love the world created by the author both with the steampunk technology and the alternative reality Civil War timeline. The main character is well developed and interesting. The book bogs down once everybody is on the train a bit but the intrigue and action don't let up. While you don't really need to read Boneshaker first it would probably be good even if only for how Dreadnought ends with how it ties into Boneshaker.
This is the first novel I read in the genre of Steampunk. I was leery at first, because the whole idea of steampunk didn't interest me, but wow! Liked the book and have reserved the prequel.
Even better than Boneshaker. Must read!
