A digger crushes a kiwi nest, but fortunately the egg and chick are rescued and taken to a bird nursing team in Rotorua at Rainbow Springs stream Kiwi Encounter. The chick, who is given the name Whisker is looked after and cared for, and taken to Motu Creche, which is a small, predator-proof enclosure with a safety fence where kiwi are looked after by volunteers. Once Whisker is strong enough he is eventually released back into the wild at a place called Whinray Scenic Reserve (which is near his first home at Paparangi). Based on a true story. Includes factual information about kiwi.
