As the Empire reels from its critical defeats at the Battle of Endor, the Rebel Alliance now a fledgling New Republic presses its advantage by hunting down the enemy's scattered forces before they can regroup and retaliate. But above the remote planet Akiva, an ominous show of the enemy's strength is unfolding. Out on a lone reconnaissance mission, pilot Wedge Antilles watches Imperial Star Destroyers gather like birds of prey circling for a kill, but he's taken captive before he can report back to the New Republic leaders. Meanwhile, on the planet's surface, former rebel fighter Norra Wexley has returned to her native world war weary, ready to reunite with her estranged son, and eager to build a new life in some distant place. But when Norra intercepts Wedge Antilles's urgent distress call, she realizes her time as a freedom fighter is not yet over. What she doesn't know is just how close the enemy is or how decisive and dangerous her new mission will be. Determined to preserve the Empire's power, the surviving Imperial elite are converging on Akiva for a top secret emergency summit to consolidate their forces and rally for a counterstrike. But they haven't reckoned on Norra and her newfound allies her technical-genius son, a Zabrak bounty hunter, and a reprobate Imperial defector who are prepared to do whatever they must to end the Empire's oppressive reign once and for all.

Characters: 10/10
Plot: 7/10
Writing: 8/10
This book is written in third person, present tense, which demands a certain level of immediacy that was difficult to get used to. Stylistically, Wendig also uses a lot of sentence fragments, quick images, and powerful similes to zoom through the action. While this is certainly a great way to get one's heart pumping, it was sometimes too intense and required a lot of focus as a reader.
Especially because I was listening to it as an audiobook, it was very difficult to keep track of all the characters at first. I really couldn't tell who I was supposed to invest in as the protagonist because the PoV changed so often (especially with the "interludes"). I've never seen a work endeavor to keep in touch with so many characters at once, but eventually, I got used to it and really enjoyed it.
The audiobook version is FANTASTIC. I can't imagine reading this on the page when Mark Thompson did such a fantastic job with his impressions of all the vastly different characters.

Wow! This book threw me for a surprise! I had low expectations as this book deals with the time title mentions the Aftermath of the battle of Endor. I've always wondered what happened after they partied it up with the Ewok on the moon of Endor. The story gets highly involved with mostly new unknown characters. This is the first of a new part series with the third being released soon in Feb 2017.

I like to mention in my reviews how the voice actor reads the book. So at first I was very thrown off with the readers ability to do multiple voices. It was at first very awkward but then became very enjoyable to listen to...there were music and sound effects added to the audio book. Highly recommended for the family for long road trips and Star War buffs.

The story involves several groups of characters who ultimately come together for classic Star Wars drama. One character has a refitted battle droid that I can only describe as morbidly fascinating. The author does a nice job of character development and provides some unique ways of getting them out of tight spots. Good for one listen. Some content not for little kids.
