Add a CommentI like this book. Set in a retirement village that Florence Claybourne lives at. It is about Florence & her friend Elsie's friendship throughout the years & it's also about a mystery from their past that rears its head again in these latter years. The characters are believable, with great description.
Although this book got off to a slow start, I'm glad I stuck with it to the end. Florence Claybourne has fallen in her flat at the Cherry Tree Home for the Elderly and is waiting for someone to notice. The story takes place over almost seven hours and a lifetime. As Florence's mind slips between the past and the present, the reader also shares her past experiences with Elsie and Jack. Cannon very skillfully portrays an aging mind that moves in and out of dementia. I must admit the ending was stunning and I never saw it coming.
This tale of friendship, spanning 60 years, is about the mysterious working of a woman's mind who is determined not to forget her best friend.
I've never had a problem finishing a book, because I love to read and figure at some point it is going to just kick in but I just could not go beyond 3 chapters on this, nothing about it could pic my interest. Will go down in my books as a non reader Hopefully the only one
I love this author. She also wrote The Trouble with Goats and Sheep. She does a good job of developing the characters and there is lots of intrigue. Both are a great read.
This is a great book, the characters and relationships are described so well. I have been telling my friends about it. It starts a little slow but picks up the pace as the mystery unfolds.
