Anam is Bangladeshi born author. I was told that it wasn't necessary to read her previous book, A Golden Age, as this was a stand alone novel. I would warn against this. It took about 100 pages to get comfortable with the characters and story which I'm sure may have gone smoother having read A Golden Age first. Still very entertaining story about a new country and the different political and religious forces they deal with. Well written and entertaining.
