Different views of field biology notes is helpful in undertsanding field ecology issues and their importance in keeping notes. Some excellent field ecology books (not sure if NYPL carries them) are the modern: "Notebooks from New Guinea: Reflections on Life, Nature, and Science from the Depths of the Rainforest" by Vojtech Novotny (Oxford University Press, 2009, paperback 2011); and, the 18th century elaborate "The Journals of Hipolito Ruiz: Spanish Botanist in Peru and Chile 1777-1788." (Translated by Richard Evans Schultes and Mary J. Nemry von Thenen de Jaramillo-Arango. Timber Press 1998).--One has to keep in mind some of the human prejudices during the 18th century when reading the extensive journal that makes it quite a historic documentation in many ways.
