Nick Frost’s book has you marvelling that he managed to leave the house, let alone have a successful career, what with all the drugs and not being very confident and having a traumatic upbringing. It’s the story of an ordinary man who has struggles and demons just like everybody else and not in a “oh, I’ll just book into The Priory for a bit of rehab, dahling”, showing off kind of way, but the unglamorous “everything’s gone a bit terrible” way. Incredibly honest and frank (apart from the the bit about the haunted house which I did not believe for a minute and which subsequent googling did not corroborate). This made me want to read Simon Pegg’s Nerd do well again and compare flatting anecdotes. Show less

It's rare to read something by someone in Hollywood that's this down to earth and lacking in "here's why I'm so great" boastfulness. Poehler is revealing and heartfelt and this book actually made me feel like I could be a better human. It's also really, really funny. Potentially a good choice if you're going through a divorce. Uplifting and amusing in equal measure. Also available as an eBook. Show less

Everything in this book is as dramatic as his beard, from his mother's suffering at the hands of a cruel step-family, to descriptions of Peter O'Toole's legendary drunkenness, each anecdote is the perfect ripping yarn. Likely much of it is exaggerated or untrue (Blessed claims he can remember being born) but that's no real impediment to the enjoyability of this as a read. Blessed is full of life, bluster, mild swearing and interjections of the "dear reader" variety. Recommended for anyone with a soft spot for fog horns and beards. Show less
