Robot Week at Shirley Library - AI in Education: Empowering Learners through AI Literacy
Are you interested in AI literacy in education?
Join us for the informative, practical and inspiring session on AI in Education.
Artificial Intelligence (AI) is already reshaping how we teach, assess, and engage with students—but how do we ensure even our youngest learners are prepared for this shift?
This session introduces the Scaffolded AI Literacy (SAIL) Framework, a practical model that supports teachers in building age-appropriate AI literacy from early years and beyond.
We’ll explore what AI really is (and isn’t), what it looks like in everyday life and classrooms, and how educators can foster curiosity, critical thinking, and responsible use of AI with even the youngest students.
Drawing on examples from classroom practice, this session will introduce some practical ideas, playful activities, and culturally responsive approaches to help educators confidently embed AI literacy into existing curriculum areas—without needing to be tech experts.
Whether you're new to AI or looking for ways to adapt your teaching, this is a space to explore, reflect, and take the next step in preparing students for an AI-infused future.
This session will be delivered by our special guests, Associated Professor Kathryn MacCallum and a PhD candidate Angel Moore from the University of Canterbury.
