About the speakers:

Olivia Cooper is a second-year Biochemistry student at the University of Canterbury with a passion for problem-solving and using science to create real-world solutions. Following the UC Summer Startup Programme, Olivia is working on building a biodegradable, seaweed-based alternative to plastic.
"Outside of study, I love being outdoors—hiking, waterskiing, and staying active. I’m always looking for new challenges and opportunities to learn, innovate, connect with like-minded people, and make a meaningful impact".

Lauren is the co-ordinator of Sea Shepherd Christchurch. She started volunteering with Sea Shepherd New Zealand in 2014 and over the next few years sailed on several Sea Shepherd Global ships around the world fighting for marine conservation. She is now the skipper of Sea Shepherd's small boat Loki, patrolling waters around Canterbury to protect our indigenous Pahu (Hector's dolphins).

Maeva is an undergraduate Marine Science student at the University of Waikato, Tauranga Moana. Driven by a lifelong fascination with Te Moana-nui-a-Kiwa’s underwater ecosystems, she is committed to advancing ocean conservation through a blend of innovative science solutions and creative storytelling. Maeva believes in the power of community and connection to inspire meaningful change for our Moana and rarely misses an opportunity to be in, on, or near the water.

Guy has been the Team Leader of the Hapori | Community floor of Tūranga since the building opened in October 2018. He has been with Christchurch City Libraries since 2008. With a lifelong interest in conservation, his present-day recreation interests are more land based, usually from the seat of a bicycle.
