This documentary explores the amazing and mysterious life of the English author, Daphne du Maurier, who inspired, among others, Alfred Hitchcock with her novels Rebecca and Jamaica Inn, and her short story, The Birds. Weaving together archival footage, photographs, and interviews with experts and du Maurier's daughter, the film sheds light on the author's bohemian childhood, her development as a writer, her complex domestic life, and how she brought together opposite and contradictory elements of her own personality in the female characters in Rebecca.
