Puk is twenty-six years old, happily preparing for her young son's birthday party and heavily pregnant with her second child, when the telephone rings. Her husband has collapsed in the middle of a half-marathon. She leaves her toddler with a friend and dashes to the hospital, where Lasse lies unresponsive in a coma. He dies a few hours later. Into a Star follows Puk through the first year after this tragedy, which has shattered the ordinary life she imagined for herself and her young family. As the days turn to weeks and months, Puk grapples with grief, rage, terror, exhaustion and a deep rupturing of her own identity. But she also begins to notice all the beauty that remains in the world, and to feel herself regrowing, slowly, towards the light. Her second son will be born. Her relationship with Lasse's family will stretch and expand into something new. She will navigate the miraculous, brutal, overwhelming days of early parenthood alone. And she will make peace with the memories of a husband who was difficult who and imperfect and deeply loved.
