Early tramps reflected that adventurous spirit, exploring every corner of Aucklands rugged Waitakere and Hunua ranges. Within 5 years the Club had built a hut in the Waitakeres, soon followed by a second in the Hunuas, then a third on distant Mt Ruapehu. Tongariro National Park, the Southern Alps and even Nepal became favoured tramping destinations. What changes the Club has witnessed in its first 100 years! Tramping gear, food, transport and social activities are all radically different today. These changes, along with the Club's main achievements and endeavours, are traced through several hundred intriguing photos, amusing anecdotes and reports of the time. Along the way we gain a fascinating insight into how Auckland, its people and life itself have evolved over that time."
