Ray has served his six years in prison, changed his name, his profession, his town and has not had a repeat incident. Or, that's what we're led to believe. Yet for all the disguising and changing, he's still discovered, at his place of business, by the now-grown-up girl. Harrower doesn't condemn, nor does he let anyone off the hook, using staccato, half-finished sentences to fan a conflagration of guilt, attraction, mental instability and hints of forgiveness. "Blackbird" was commissioned by the Edinburgh International Festival and premiered at the King's Theatre, Edinburgh, in August 2005. The production transferred to the Albery Theatre, London, in February 2006, and went on to open at the Manhattan Theater Club, New York City, in April 2007.
